Georgia Bulldogs vs. South Carolina Gamecocks ATS Pick
Opening Line: South Carolina -2.5
Time: 7 PM EST Saturday October 6, 2012 on ESPN / ESPN Watch
The Georgia vs. South Carolina game is 1 of 2 in the SEC between a couple of top 10 teams, as LSU faces Florida. Both the Bulldogs and Gamecocks are 5-0 and the winner will take the lead in the SEC East Division and they will be all alone in first place if Florida loses to favored LSU. This is a match of offense vs. defense, as the Bulldogs have a great offense, both passing and rushing the ball, and the Gamecocks have the nation’s 6th ranked defense.
Georgia may want a little revenge in this game, as they lost to South Carolina 45-42 at home last season.
In their last games Georgia beat Tennessee 51-44 and South Carolina beat Kentucky 38-17.
Georgia is 2-3 ATS with an O/U record of 5-0 and South Carolina is 4-1 ATS with an Over/Under record of 3-2.
While South Carolina is led by their D their offense ranks 34th in points per game and they are very well balanced. QB Conner Shaw has 4 TD and 0 INT in his last 2 games and he has a couple of big play targets in Damiere Byrd (9 rec 246 yards 2 TD 27.3 yards per catch) and Bruce Ellington (12 rec 207 yards 17.3 yards per catch).
Marcus Lattimore got some Heisman buzz before the season and he had a breakout game last week rushing for 120 yards. Shaw is a duel threat QB that has over 200 yards rushing on the season.
Georgia has a decent pass and run defense, but they must play better than they did last week when they gave up 44 points.
Georgia QB Aaron Murray is another guy in the Heisman race and he has played well this season and the Bulldogs top 2 WR’s each have over 300 receiving yards. The Gamecocks pass defense ranks a respectable 47th in the nation, but their pass rush has the 2nd most sacks in the nation and that will be key in this game. The Bulldogs’ offensive must protect Murray and if they cannot they may be in for a long game.
The Bulldogs have one of the best rushing offenses in the nation with 2 freshman RB’s in Todd Gurley (536 yards 9 TD) and Keith Marshall (428 yards 5 TD). These guys are a great 1-2 punch out of the backfield and they will be facing a great USC run defense that ranks 7th in the nation.
Georgia is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games, 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall, and they have an Over record of 7-0 in their last 7 games.
South Carolina is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 home games, 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall, and they have an Under record of 5-2 in their last 7 SEC games.
Georgia is only 0-4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against South Carolina and in a key betting trend in the last 8 games between these 2 teams at South Carolina the total has gone Under every time.
Both teams are 5-0 straight up, but the Bulldogs have been the more dominant of the two with impressive wins in their last two. It doesn't hurt that they'll have revenge on their minds after last season's narrow 45-42 loss.
